Negative carry = live projected yield APR (StakeDAO effective boost) minus borrow cost. When spread goes negative the strategist can set the vault to idle (deposits accepted but not deployed into the yield strategy) to protect capital while conditions recover. Emergency mode is a one-way gov-controlled unwind — use only when necessary.
